This week the children have been creating portraits. We used mirrors to look at our facial features and discussed the similarities and differences of our faces and the importance of proportion when creating a portrait. The children were set a challenge to create a self portrait during independent learning. We used whiteboards and pens to start (we decided this was easier to make alterations and correct mistakes). Once children were happy with their 'first draft', they had a go at creating their portrait on paper. I am SO impressed with the work the children have created, I can't wait to see some more portraits as the term goes on! Have a lovely weekend. Miss Rowe. It's been another busy week in Year 1.
This week, we've had some brilliant mathematicians working hard to sort, count, group and represent objects and numbers. In Science, we have been learning about the human body and during independent learning, the children were able to embed their knowledge by naming and labelling the body parts. As we begin to explore the 5 senses, the children have been testing their sense of sight by trying out different coloured lens glasses and discussing how things look. The children loved doing this, and it has been great to observe and listen to their discussions and ideas. Yet again, we have had some wonderful creations in provision, including the Statue of Liberty, a supermarket and a farm in the small world area! See you on Monday! Year One have worked so hard this week settling back into school routines and getting used to the 'new normal'.
Have a look at some of the wonderful child initiated learning we have had in class this week. It has been so lovely to see how the same resource can be used for a different purpose time and time again. The construction area and large loose parts have definitely been a favourite as well as learning about the human body in the investigation area. Well done Year One, have a wonderful weekend! We have had a wonderful first day in Year One today. The children have explored the new areas of the classroom and have enjoyed being with their friends again. There have been lots of brilliant creations with the large loose parts outside, we've had a house with two chimneys, a castle, a slide and a shop - it was lovely to see so much brilliant teamwork. In the construction area in the classroom we've had cars and trains and even a gated prison!
What a fantastic day! Welcome back to the new academic year, I hope you have had a lovely summer break. Mrs Bazeley and I are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow for your first day in Year One! Children will be greeted in the year one playground when they arrive between 8:40-8:50am. Our finish time will be 15:20pm.
I appreciate that coming back to school is going to be very daunting for some and incredibly exciting for others. As you will see from the photos, the classroom has been changed around to ensure the transition back to school is as smooth as possible for all children - there are plenty of opportunities for independent learning and I hope the photos help to ease any worry for those children feeling anxious about their return to school. This term we will have PE on Monday and Wednesday starting this week. Please ensure you have full PE kit in school ready to participate. We are very much looking forward to seeing you in the morning, Miss Rowe and Mrs Bazeley. Your home learning for this week is as follows:

Good morning Year One, We hope you've had a fabulous weekend and are ready for the week ahead. We know home learning is becoming more of a challenge for some of you as the term goes on. Please remember we are always here to support in any way we can, if you need us we're only at the end of an email. Last week, William created some lovely kite sun-catchers to stick on his window and we thought some of you may enjoy having a go at this too. Look how fab they are! Or how about having a go at making an erupting volcano just like Oliver did? We'd love to see what you get up to.
Have a fantastic week. Take care, Miss Rowe and Mrs Dennis. |
