It has been a sport-filled week for Year 3. On Monday, we headed to Okehampton College for the rounders festival as part of the Festival Of Hope week. We then practiced field events in preparation for Sports' Day on Tuesday and Wednesday. The whole school came together for a fantastic whole-school Sports' Day on Thursday and we finished the week of with multi skills at Okehampton Primary school!
This week we took our English lesson outside of the classroom and had a treasure hunt for words that include apostrophes. We have learnt that apostrophes can be used for two reasons: the omission of a letter or to show possession. The children went on a hunt around the playground to find matchings pairs. They had great fun! Linking to our History topic of Ancient China, Year 3 have been learning about traditional Chinese food in Design Technology. This week they were able to sample a range of sauces, noodles and prawn crackers. After trying each sample (and a few mixed reactions), the children made notes on the appearance, smell, taste and texture. Have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday for our visit to Kents Cavern.
The highlight of the week was, undoubtedly, the music concert held on Thursday afternoon. It was incredible to watch the Year 3 children sing their hearts out for so many parents and family members. I was blown away by the talent of the young musicians and singers we have in our class. The last lesson of our plants (science) unit was based on seed dispersal. The children had a great deal of fun making paper helicopters and watching them fly across the playground. This helped them realise just how far seeds can travel in the wind. Patrick was our record holder - his helicopter travelled from the middle of the playground, over the cars in the car park and landed safely, next to the climbing frame, on the school field! Have a lovely weekend.
It's been lovely to see all the children back after the half term break.
Today, all the children took part in OCRA's Quadkids competition. They all tried their best at a sprint, vortex throw, standing long jump and and middle distance run. The sportsman ship and support the children displayed was wonderful - well done, everyone! Year 3 had a brilliant last week and topped it all off with a lovely day, yesterday. In English this week, the class worked hard to finish writing their letters to Michael Morpurgo. All of the children have chosen questions to ask the famous author and, on Friday, we went to the local Post Office to send them to London. Fingers crossed , we’ll receive a reply soon! After we had posted the letters, we headed to the Forest School to create some forest faces for the final part of the Picasso art unit. The children used clay and the natural materials they could find around them. The week was finished off with our whole-school Jubilee tea party. It was a wonderful atmosphere and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves (and all their food) in the sunshine. Enjoy the half-term break, everyone!
The children have been busy this week continuing to learn about fractions. At the start of the week, they enjoyed playing different fraction games to consolidate and apply their understanding of equivalent fractions, fractions of amounts and fractions of shapes. There was an added challenge of working together to understand the rules of each game. In Art, the children became mini Picassos and created their own pieces of artwork inspired by his different techniques and styles. The children first created a collage base, using different paper backgrounds, and then drew faces with black marker pen over the top. Finally, they added blocks of colour, using water colours, to their pictures. They look fantastic! Have a lovely weekend!
This week, the class have been learning about the male and female parts of a flower. After the children had learned about the different parts of a flower, we went for a walk around the school to explore the flowers and see if we could spot the parts that make up the stamen (m) and carpel (f). During their art lesson with Miss Jackson, the children went to the Forest School area to create nature colour wheels. They went hunting for different flowers, leaves and twigs to complete their colour wheel. Have a lovely weekend.
This week, Year 3 have been creating some lovely poetry based on the book 'The Lost Words.' The children have been using their senses to explore their surroundings. In SCARF this week, the children role played their own short 'campaigns' to encourage people to drink more water or cover their mouths when they sneeze to prevent getting ill. All the children had great fun! Below are a couple of photos from last week's dance session. We have our second lesson on Monday. Have a lovely weekend!
It's been lovely to see the children back in school after the Easter break. We've had some lovely weather this week and the children have enjoyed plenty of time on the school field at break and lunch time. They've also had their first PE lesson on the field: football with Mr Berry. In other areas of the curriculum, the children have been continuing to learn about fractions, started their new Geography topic, Villages, Towns and Cities and have been learning about Pablo Picasso, with Miss Jackson, in Art. Have a lovely weekend!
