It sounds like the Year 4 class had a fantastic time over the Christmas holidays and they have settled back into school very well. This week we began learning about Sounds for our new Science topic, the Anglo-Saxons during History lessons whilst continuing our work on multiplication in Maths. The children have particularly enjoyed our latest book for English 'The day the crayons quit', which they have found very amusing!
We have studied the Willow Pattern in our Art lessons. The children have learnt that the story is set in China and tells the tale of two lovers escaping together. The children were surprised to discover that the pattern is actually British and was designed by a man called Thomas Minton at the end of the 18th century. The children have created their own copies of the Willow Pattern plate design using blue ink. They then choose a favourite or familiar story and drew the key elements and main characters to create their own story plates. We think the results are fantastic!
Can you work out which stories the children have chosen to draw on their plates We are enjoying learning about The Roman Empire in our History lessons. This week we have linked our Art and History lessons and we have been investigating and designing mosaics. We used squared paper to help us with our designs. We had to think of simple shapes and use bright colours to fill them in. Next week we are going to use card tiles to create a final version of our mosaics.
The students have had a great start to Year 4. The children have enjoyed coming back and spending time with their friends. This week, we did some fun team building games, some maths, English, PE and art. Well done to all of the children on settling in so well.
Whilst some of year 4 were swimming their hearts out, the rest of year 4 enjoyed a water shooter fun filled time on the field. What a super end to the week (indeed a wonderful year), thank you so much Year 4.
