The children in Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic day of Cricket on Wednesday.
They got to try out some key skills and compete in matches. They all played brilliantly, there was some great teamwork and it was lovely to hear the children supporting and cheering each other on. Today, at Rosemoor, year 4 enjoyed a super action packed sensory filled day. We had a 90 minute workshop exploring the classification of living things, pollination and actual planting to name but a few. The photos are a snap shot of a truly super day that was mostly sunny! The children have mentioned that they adored the play park, the rose garden, lunch and hiding in the wild garden. Who can you see hiding in there? Have a super weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White Spanish club enjoyed their last afterschool Spanish lesson by listening to tradition Spanish music and sampling delicious foods. Here is what they thought:
'I enjoyed the Olives the best, usually I don't like them but these green ones were great' 'I tried the Spanish omelette but I didn't like it' 'The bread dipped in oil and Balsamic was surprising, I told my parents about it' 'The Spanish breadsticks were so good' ' I didn't like the look of the Manchego but it was yummy' 'The gallettas were really crumbly and delicious dipped in chocolate' 'The smell of the churros cooking was sooo good!' We hope you have a super weekend, Team Year 4 Triple Stone Row: Year 4 had a wonderful walk from our very own doorstep to the Triple Row just beneath Cawsand (also known as Cosdon). We were told super tales of times gone by Charles Scott including information about granite splitting using feather and wedges, burial chambers and blocking gates to keep spirits out at the base of the row. We were blessed with the weather and got through many re-fills of water on the way. In Science, we have been looking at Living Things and their habitats, this week we had a closer look at the animals and used our sketching skills and sketch books to pay close attention to the intricate detail of the animals in our local area by learning an enlargement technique.
Mrs White is teaching Art skills through a variety of artists local and further afield, this weeks artist is called Faye Akassa who is a gifted sand artist from Senegal, West Africa. We used powder paint and sand and then glue to create the effect. Fantastic vibrant result!
In Science this week, after discussing what living things are and what habitats are, we took to the grounds to search for living things in their habitats. We carefully looked under leaves, logs, bricks etc... and we found a multitude of wildlife; all of which were looked at in petri dishes, before being carefully placed back where they had been found. We found spiders, millipedes, snails, slugs and even ants moving what looked to be eggs away from our eagle eyes.
We then went over to inspect the willow dome and EXCITINGLY, more of the willow is now shooting, hurray! We cannot wait to start weaving the dome to make it a truely living shelter. We also took part in an Ocra sporting event which involved long jump, javelin, sprint and two laps around the field. Incredible fitness and sportsmanship shown. Well done. We wish you all a super weekend. Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White Year Four had a fantastic Viking Day! Thanks to Leif Tarry who came in dressed as a Viking and led charges and raids across the school field on a brilliantly sunny afternoon. The children all looked amazing and have been talking about it all week. We ended the day with a Viking Feast, sampling typical Viking foods.
Have a super half term break! From Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White. Having mostly recovered from PGL, the children have been delving further into How to Train a Dragon; looking at the use of simile and how to create powerful imagery. In Maths we have exploring rounding in money. Our topic of Vikings is coming to a close and watch this space for the grand finale ...
We hope you have a super weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White Photos below are of paired reading with Year 2. Each child now has a buddy and so we will be meeting more often to buddy up with a good book and share characters and stories together What an incredible three days and two nights spent at PGL Barton Hall. The children were amazing. They tried new activities, they pushed themselves out of their comfort zones and learnt new skills. The staff at PGL were awesome, very motivating and encouraging! Ruth, Ali and myself - plus helpers, enjoyed the Easter holiday sunshine and built a willow dome at the end of the playing field. It was a wonderful experience! The willow was donated by RHS Rosemoor and collected by Ali and we used Ruth's expertise in this area as it appears she is somewhat of an expert! Thank you.
Year 4 have tested it for size and strength as we went to inspect and see if it has started to grow yet. Watch this space. Year 4 blog will be full of residential fun next week. Have a super weekend getting ready for it, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White We were so very lucky to have an owl pellet in class this week. We heard about where it was found, all about the Barn Owl who produced it. We then softened it in water and iodine, then enjoyed having a good look inside to see what the owl had been eating that day. We found numerous very small bones and four skulls of possibly mouse or vole.
(*hands were thoroughly washed post dissection!) For more info on Owl Pellets: The Barn Owl Trust Wishing you all a super long weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White |
