We were very lucky with the dry, sunny weather on Monday for our morning at forest school. We enjoyed some free play, exploring the mud kitchen, the climbing wall, the car and even searching for worms under the rocks.
Linking to our learning in science about materials, we did a scavenger hunt for the properties of different items. We searched for something soft, prickly, shiny etc. Of course we finished the session off with a hot chocolate and biscuits! The children had a wonderful time listening to stories, looking at and purchasing their very own books from The Bookery on Tuesday.
Have a look at what we got up to on World Book Day. Do you recognise any of the book characters we dressed up as? What a joy to see Year 1 and Year 6 spend time together sharing stories! We haven't done this for a very long time due to Covid restrictions but the children absolutely LOVED it so we will definitely find time to buddy up with a reading partner again soon.
In PE with Mr Berry we worked with partners to create our own game. We decided on the equipment we needed and created the rules. We then shared our games with another pair and played together.
The Bee Bots have been on their own adventures around the classroom as we have been practicing our programming skills in computing. The children enjoyed using blocks from the construction area to create bridges and obstacles for their Bee Bot which was a great challenge to direct without crashing.
This week, we started the practical element of our Great British Bake Off topic for DT. Our lesson began with a discussion around food safety and hygiene. Together, we compiled a list of things we must and mustn't do to ensure we were being safe and hygienic whilst cooking.
The children worked so well together reading the recipe, weighing the ingredients, taking turns to mix and helping one another; it was a joy to see. I heard from across the classroom someone say, "This is the best day of school ever!" I think it's safe to say it was a successful afternoon! A BIG thank you to Mrs Glover who was a huge help too! Another week has flown by and we have worked incredibly hard, particularly in Maths, where we have been consolidating our knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes as well as the introduction of 2 digit numbers with a focus on tens and ones.
Here are some photos of the children enjoying the Maths area to build 2D and 3D shapes during their independent learning time. |
