Welcome back Year One. It has been lovely to have a full class back in school this week and the children have loved spending time reconnecting with one another after some time apart. It has especially been great for the children to spend time with children from other year groups at break and lunchtimes now we are no longer in year group bubbles.
We were lucky to have a nice sunny afternoon for our PE lesson with Mr Berry on Wednesday. The children practised some tennis skills and then worked together to create their own games using the resources. On Thursday, the children enjoyed sharing some books together. Wow! Can you believe the Christmas holidays are upon us? What a busy week we have had. The photos below show how much fun the children have had, despite it not quite being the end of term we had planned. A big well done to every single one of the Year One children who have worked so incredible hard this term and deserve a wonderful Christmas break with their families.
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. Miss Rowe. It has been a very busy week this week and, as usual, the children have been working incredibly hard. Today, we had the chance to spend some time sharing books with one another. It was so wonderful to see the children listening intently and reading stories to each other.
This term, our DT project is sewing. The children began using plastic needles and have progressed to using a metal needle to sew a running stitch. There has been lots of problem solving and untangling along the way! I am so impressed with their running stitches so far... well done, Year One!
As part of our History unit about dinosaurs, we have been learning about what a palaeontologist is and what they do to help us learn about plants and animals from the past. We've been having a go at being palaeontologists. With our special kit of tools and safety equipment, we have searched among the sand for fossils and they tried to identify what animal they might belong to.
A BIG thank you to Andrew Shaddick for very kindly fixing the broken sand tray. We are very grateful and the children have thoroughly enjoyed playing with it this week! Year One had a fantastic day learning about Climate Change. It gave us lots to think about and we discussed our own impact on the planet as well as the small things we could do to make a big difference!
On Monday, we braved the rain and headed to the forest school area for the afternoon. The children had a fantastic time in the mud kitchen, climbing on the climbing frame, balancing on the logs, driving the car and exploring the outdoor learning area. We even managed to get a small fire going despite the rain! We can't wait to go again!
Using powder paint and water we mixed our own colours and created this vibrant palette of paints to use in class. Discussing the language and emotions around colours, each child mixed and named their own paint. This allowed us to explore a variety of the shades and tones within each colour. After discussing what the colours reminded us of, using their creativity the children independently came up with a name for their paint.
We have been practicing a static balance and balancing on 1 leg during our PE lessons. We had lots of fun playing popping pirates this week!
