Year 3 have been working hard again this week. We've been reading more of The Iron Man and the children have created designs and instructions for how to trap the space-bat-angel. I also shared a couple of the newspaper reports they wrote about a new dinosaur discovery.
In science, the children have also learnt about Mary Anning and the important role she played in the early discoveries of fossils. I've already heard that some of the children have gone home and told their parents all about her - lovely! Last week, the children also created some lovely Christmas stocking decorations to add to our school hall. They really lovely on display and add a bit of festive sparkle! Have a lovely weekend. This week, we have been learning about similes in English and using them to describe different parts of the Iron Man (from Ted Hugh's book). We have also been learning more basketball skills in PE and learning about how fossils are formed in Science. We even had a go at making our own! Our Christmas hamper is looking amazing, but we haven't sold many tickets. If you have managed to sell some, please send the money and ticket stubs into school next week.
Have a lovely weekend! It's been really lovely to get back into class and see all the children again this week. The children have been incredibly busy this week; they have been continuing to work on their written addition methods in Maths, writing newspaper reports in English, investigating rocks in Science and painting their model volcanoes in Design Technology. Year 3 Christmas HamperOur Christmas hamper is already filling up fast and has some lovely prizes in it. Thank you to all of you who have donated prizes. If you haven't done so already, and would like to, please send your orange prizes into class over the next couple of weeks. If you manage to sell some tickets, please send the ticket stubs and money back into school - I am collecting them in class, to pass onto the Mrs Meardon in the office. If you would like some more tickets to sell, I have some spares. Have a lovely weekend.
Year 3 have been busy this afternoon making a start on their volcano models. They have used newspaper and their bottles to make the basic volcano shape. Next week, they will begin to paper mache their models before painting them.
Great job so far, Year 3! It has been lovely to see the children back in school and, for the first time in weeks, we've had a full class! It's been fantastic to have everyone together again - long may it continue. The children have made a great start; they have been working hard on their addition in Maths, learning about facts and opinions in English, we've started a new topic on Mountains, Earthquakes and Volcanoes in Georgraphy and we'll be creating our own volcano models in Design Technology over the next few weeks! But, without a doubt, the highlight of the week was finally having a go on the new climbing structure on our school field. There was much excitement as the children climbed, hung and scrambled over the new equipment. Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
Year 3 have had a lovely week to round off their first half term. During the week, the children have planned and written their own explanations for how to look after a pet dragon. They all came up with some incredibly interesting and imaginative ideas. In art, they have created their own clay dragons and added the finishing touches to their dragon eggs. The class have also been working with Mrs Dunn in their music lessons and performed a short concert. Mrs Dunn has filmed this, but there have been a few technical hitches. I hope to be able to share the video with you after half term. To bring the week to an end, we enjoyed an afternoon in the Forest School. The children created some campfire pictures, made their own dragon flames, enjoyed some hot chocolate and listened to the story of Zog. Well done to all of the children for completing their first half term in Key Stage 2 and working so incredibly hard.
I hope you all have a restful and healthy half term! It's been another great week in Year 3! We started the week with a maths lesson, on the playground, to help us learn about ordering numbers. The children had great fun drawing number lines and writing their answers on the playground. We have finished place value now and are moving on the next unit, addition and subtraction. To conclude our dragons unit in English, we have started exploring explanation texts and the children will write their own explanations about how to look after a pet dragon. Over the past couple of days, the children have worked with a partner to complete a short explanation about different parts of a dragon's body. The example below is an explanation we wrote together as a class. Some of the children have written a neat version and it has been added to our display in class. Well done to you all!
Have a lovely weekend. Yesterday, the children enjoyed working with clay during their art lesson. They have completed the first steps of creating their own model of a dragon egg. Next week, the children will paint and decorate their eggs before making a small dragon to sit inside the following week. The children enjoyed using their hands and tools to create the egg shape and patterns on their eggs. This morning, the children have written letters to dragon pen pal. They have been working hard on creating and punctuating their questions. They have also been organising their writing into paragraphs. Next week, they will be writing replies and sharing their letters.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend! This week, Year 3 had the chance to add more detail to their dragon eye pictures. Some children even managed to complete them and have a go at making an origami dragon head. In PE, the children have moved onto Tag Rugby. They really enjoyed practising their defending and attacking during the tagging games. The children worked brilliantly together and displayed some excellent team work skills.
Have a lovely weekend. Year 3 have been working hard this week. We have been learning all about adverbs and how they can be used to describe movements; they even transformed into dragons on the playground and explored how dragons fly and move across land.
Continuing with our dragon theme, the class have also started to create their own dragon eye pictures. We hope to finish them next week, so look out for them on the blog next week. Today, the class worked in groups on some different mathematical problems. They used counters, multilink, dice and pictorial representations to help them. Another great week - well done, everyone! Have a lovely weekend. |
