Year 4's performance of Trouble at Oak Wood was filmed this week, and so parents will be sent a link to watch it when it is all edited and ready. The children have been working very hard these past few weeks learning their lines, remembering their cues on stage, voice projection and acting skills. They have done you all proud and so please find below some photographs taken during the final rehearsals for you to enjoy.
We wish you a very Happy Easter, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White Year 4 missed the opportunity to set fire to their Tudor Houses when they were in Year 2 (due to covid), so Mrs White let them watch a re-enactment of how the houses would have burnt, in our woodland area, using our Anglo-Saxon round houses instead. The centre house was set on fire safely by Mrs White, and the child watched from a safe distance and were amazed at how quickly the houses caught. Thank you Mrs White. Have a super weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White We have had a 'collaboration' focus this week in English. The children were working in groups and over a few days they created a collaborative poster, having researched their famous women that they had been allocated. We will go on to learn about to write biographies and then go on to write our own. The children decided as a group on content, layout and then also presented their work to the class.
We hope you have a super weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White I wasn't the only one who learnt how to Hula Hoop this afternoon. What a treat! Thanks to our PTA, we got to enjoy Hula Hooping and learn some extra skills and then also develop some flower sticks tricks. It was a truly stunning day too. Spring is here (dare I say it!)
Our new geography topic is Migration, in Maths we will be starting Decimals and in English we are learning from the text Fantastically Great Women who changed the World by Kate Pankhurst. Year 4 have their play in a couple of weeks too, so we are doing a lot of rehearsals at the moment too. We hope you all have a super weekend and long may this sunshine last! Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and White White Year 4 were delighted to have had their questions answered directly in the form of a personalised You Tube video from Alastair himself from his actual writing shed! If you don't know this inspirational author yet, you must have a look at his website and the books he has written about his adventures, more info below.
'As well as expeditions such as cycling round the world, walking across India and rowing the Atlantic, Alastair was named as a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year for his pioneering work on the concept of microadventures, trying to encourage people to get outside, get out of their comfort zone, go somewhere they’ve never been. A microadventure is an adventure that is close to home, cheap, simple, short, and yet very effective. Alastair has written ten books about his adventures. He is highly regarded as a motivational keynote speaker for corporate events around the world. You can get in touch with Alastair here. He produces a free occasional newsletter with the highlights of the blog and important expedition news.' Here is a link to his website: alastairhumphreys.com Incredible effort by everyone for World Book Day, more photos to follow.
Have a great weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White We enjoyed a more sheltered outdoor time on Wednesday afternoon. We enjoyed planting, weeding and mud kitchen culinary delights before the wind got up, when we retreated inside for hot chocolate and cake.
We wish you a super half term, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham, Mrs White and Mr Wilkins Our Science topic has been Sound this half term, so we have explored sound made from a gramophone this week.
Like other record players, gramophones read the sound with a small needle which fits into the groove in the record. As the record turns, the grooves make the needle vibrate back and forth. These vibrations are transmitted to the diaphragm, which itself vibrates, creating sound. We hope you enjoy 'His Masters Voice' as much as we did. The children commented on the crackle of the record and by listening to it, they felt like they were going back in time. Several children talked about how the sound was amplified, sounded eerie and they commented on it being more reliable that modern day technology as there is less to go wrong and can be fixed easily. In Art, Mrs White has been continuing our History topic of Anglo Saxons by the children designing and making round houses, they are coming on a treat. We hope you have a lovely weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White Using our understanding of how sounds travels, the children were tasked with making ear defenders for children to attend a noisy rock concert. They talked in groups about which mediums would help muffle sound or not and why. It was a lot of fun, creative and the ideas were brilliant! We went into Yr3 and Yr5 to see if our designs worked when they made noise.
Here are some of the comments that were overheard: 'I found out that you need a few layers of wodding to block the sound, as with one layer it kept coming through' 'The egg carton worked well when stuffed with wodding, but it was difficult to attached it the head so I had to hold them on my ears'. 'The bubbles needed to stay in the bubble wrap to provide another layer to protect against loud sounds' 'Dense, soft materials like cotton wool and wodding absorb sound waves, so the waves go slower'. We hope you have a great weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White What a super afternoon we had! Everyone running their hearts out and Year 3 cheering us on and then visa versa! Thankfully this morning's heavy frost didn't stick around!
