If I had super powers I would be ...
The sun shone for us this week! Hurray!
Even thought it was nippy, Tennis and Badminton skills were honed this week. The children worked on hand eye coordination, proximity to net and aim. So many key elements to think about and they all did very well. In Maths, we have been using manipulatives to help with factor families in multiplication. We hope you have a super weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White Welcome Back to year 4 and we were all in! Woo hoo!
We really enjoyed hearing about everyone's Christmas break; stories of families reuniting after a long time, laughter and smiles were so wonderful to hear. Our new book in English is 'How Santa Really Works' by Alan Snow, an absolutely fabulous book which we will tie into DT also. Our History topic is Anglo Saxons and we hope (everything crossed) to have a Thatcher in to show us the ancient art of Thatching and in Art we will be focusing on Anglo Saxon round houses. We are starting multiplication and division in Maths with a lot of emphasis on Times Tables (TTRS a go go). In Science, we are starting 'Sound' so this week we did a sound walk and compared what we heard inside, in the corridor and outside. We started collaborative learning in Computing, so to prepare for typing into a document, we started BBC touch type, see photos below. So much fun to be had in all subjects this term! We hope you have a super weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White Well, what a week and so quiet with blended learning also occurring. Well done to those at home and those who are in for being so resilient during these crazy times. We have been making the best of it however with Forest School, climbing frame fun and our Christingle service. Well done and thank you to Mrs Dunn for all her superb talent in music across the school, Choir sounded stunning today!
We wish you a very, very Happy Christmas and see you in the New Year, Take care and stay safe, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White
What a busy time we are having in Year 4 with our new topics in full swing. Rivers for Geography and Art, Hinduism for RE, Coding using Scratch for Computing, to name but a few. Our text we are coming to the end of is 'I don't believe it Archie' which is a diary of all the strange events that happen quite by chance to a little boy called Archie. Keep an eye out here for our final pieces next week where we will be writing our own chapter in the style of the text. We ended our times tables unit with times tables Four in a Row and times tables Snakes and Ladders - very noisy and fun!
As part of enriching our pupils and giving them a more global outlook, we have been enjoying 'Lyfta' story worlds, where the children get an incite to different jobs, lives and cultures through this immersive platform. Click here to see what Lyfta is all about. This week the children visited an American Chef who is based in San Francisco wowing his clients with his amazing Ceviche. We then looked at what Ceviche was made from and how - see below. Have a super weekend, Miss Chalcraft, Mrs Graham and Mrs White Thank you so much to Mark Sidaway who shared his years of experience in Meteorology and weather prediction to further our understanding of weather and climate change. We even got to see a Cloud in a bottle! Superb afternoon, thank you so much.
The children discussed what they knew about COP26, they discussed climate change how it will affect us and then made a rain gauge from recycled plastic.
COP26 We explored how to interview and how to record responses tied in with COP26 this week; where we had reporters and world leaders questioning and being questioned on climate change, global warming and ways forward. The children were very mature and came up with some fantastic ideas. Our chariots are complete! Well done to Year 4 and Mrs White for producing such a superb Art/DT/Topic themed art project. I think you will agree that these are wonderful!
