Year 4 enjoyed a full volcano immersion day today. With every part of the day carefully linked in to our volcano topic. The children enjoyed writing Volcano poetry, Volcano top trump maths linking in with our unit on measure and a science afternoon full of explosions, lava slime and general feeling of excitement! Please find below some progress shots. What a super week! We had nine pupils in year 4 gain their pen licence certificates and everyone else really working hard to get theirs. We have been so very impressed with the high level handwriting, well done! As you can see from the previous post, we had some super 'ear' homework (just a selection posted). Today we did an experiment on pitch, see if your children tell you our findings? Friday 4th December is Volcano day, more information has been emailed to you (also is below). Miss Chalcraft, Miss Bennett and Mrs White **Photo below shows inverted comma searching (e.g. "Yipeee for the weekend!" she exclaimed.) and then Drama role play linked to our English Text 'I don't believe it Archie'** Volcano Themed Day: Friday 4th December
The class have chosen to celebrate getting all their marbles with a Science and Volcano themed day on Friday 4th December. Slime kit needed: If the children have a slime kit or you can get hands on one for Friday (or some of the ingredients below) that would be amazing, as there are plans afoot to create lava slime to tie in with our topic. The day will be Topic and Science themed and will be heaps of fun with investigations too!SLIME VOLCANO RECIPE
In science we have been learning about hearing. A homework challenge was to create a model of the ear, and wow what super effort. Here are a selection to share with you.
Dear All, you will find your homework printed in your homework books. In Maths this week we are starting perimeter and length. I have popped a knowledge organiser in your homework books for you to get to know the maths language we will be using. The maths sheet compliments what we are doing in class.
There is also a 'Mind' booklet to complete as a family. The idea being to think about what we can do to keep ourselves happy and healthy in body and in mind, including recognising when we feel down and strategies to improve how we feel. Frustratingly, the printer had its own act of craziness and printed it incorrectly but we decided as a class that we would save trees rather than print it again. If you have the game Bananagrams, please take a photo of your child playing as we are getting quite good at it in class now, and it's great at improving spellings! Wow, that went in a flash! We started our text 'I don't believe it Archie' by Andrew Norriss this week. This is a super book that we started before lockdown and therefore didn't get to finish it. If you get a chance to grab a copy of it do, as it will not disappoint!
The class enjoyed music this afternoon with Mrs Dunn! It is sounding wonderful! Have a super weekend. Year 4 Homework: 18th November 2020 **If you have Nessy or IDL account, please log in and complete tasks** 1) Linked to Anti-Bullying Week Watch the film: https: //www.literacyshed.com/for-the-birds.html Ask your child what they think the video tells us. Does it have a message? Children will often say that the small birds were mean to the big bird because he is different. This sparks the debate. Who are the mean ones? Why are they mean? Are any of the small birds worse than others? Why? Is there a moral to the story? Could we give it a new title? Have you experienced this? 2) Write a detailed book review about one of your recent fabulous reads – see printed format in books. Write using full sentences please. 3) Have a look at this amazing view into the Ear (click on word Ear for link) DT Challenge: Can you make the inner structure of the ear? |
