I hope the children have all enjoyed Bikeability this week; maybe we'll see a few more of the children cycling to school in the coming weeks. I will hand out certificates and badges next week.
This week, we've also enjoyed some sessions in the Forest School area. Unfortunately it was rather damp, so lighting the fire proved unsuccessful, but we managed to still enjoy some hot chocolate and biscuits yesterday. The children worked together to find different insects in the Forest School area and also created some habitats of their own. The children have also been incredibly interested in US elections and we've had several discussions this week about the candidates and who we think should win. Hopefully, we'll finally have an answer by Monday! We all said 'goodbye' to Alfie this week too. It's very sad to see him go, but we all know he'll do brilliantly at his new school and make lots of new friends. Good luck, Alfie! Have a great weekend everyone! Reading
Please continue to read for at least 15 minutes a day. Don't forget to record your reading on your sheet. English This week, I would like you to think about all the things you learnt during Bikeability and design an informative poster or leaflet explaining how to cycle safely on the road. You could include top tips, questions, diagrams and key facts. You can complete this in your homework book or on A4 paper. If you didn't take part in Bikeability, you can create a poster/leaflet about general road safety or how to stay safe on the Moors or at the beach. Maths Have a go at the investigation below or keep practicing your times tables. mobile_numbers.pdf Nessy/IDL If you have accounts for these, please complete these activities (as well as daily reading) instead of the homework given above. If you have any problems, please come and let me know. Well done, everyone. You've successfully reached the end of your first half term in Year 6 - and what a busy few weeks it has been!
After all your hard work, your trenches are looking fantastic! You worked so well together to get these completed. I'm also looking forward to reading your final WW1 stories. I hope you all enjoyed your well-deserved 'Free Day' today. Enjoy your half term break, but please make time for some daily reading - it really is so important. See you on the 2nd November, ready for Bikeability and some Forest School sessions. You will be pleased to hear that your homework for next week is to read! Please aim to read every day, for a minimum of 15 minutes, and record it on your reading record.
Enjoy your well deserved break over half term - you have all work incredibly hard over the past few weeks. This week, you have worked so well together in so many lessons. Whilst investigating shadows, you worked well to complete the investigation and your trenches are coming along nicely. I can’t wait to see how they all look next week when you complete them.
Have a lovely weekend! Reading
Please continue with your 15 minutes of daily reading. Maths Please complete questions 1, 2 and 3 of the Four Operations booklet. If you finish and would like a further task, you can write your own word problems for the calculations used in question 1. Four Operations booklet English Please complete the subjunctive form activity. If you would like to check your answers when you've finished, they can be found on the last page. There is also a quiz that you can have a go at if you'd like to. If you do, record your score in your homework book. Subjunctive Form Subjunctive Form Quiz IDL/Nessy If you have accounts for either of these, please complete regular activities on these programmes rather than the Maths and English tasks set above. Bikeability All parents should have received an email about Bikeability which will take place from Monday 2nd November. If this email has not come through, please let me know as soon as possible. Well done to all of you this week. You've worked really hard on improving your understanding of written multiplication and the subjunctive form. Maybe you could impress your family members by speaking in the subjunctive form? Be prepared though, you may get some funny looks! You also all worked brilliant when investigating light and reflection. It would be great if you could explain to your parents (or other family members) what the angles of incidence and reflection are. Try using the diagram below to help you. We'll be continuing with our trench models next week, so if you have any old newspapers at home, please bring them in for paper mache.
Well done to those of you who have managed to complete your homework already. If you still need to bring it in, don't forget it on Monday, please. Have a lovely weekend! Reading
Please continue to read for a minimum of 15 minutes every day. Don't forget to record your reading in the table you were given. Maths Click on the link below. I would like you to use the webs to revise the multiplication facts you find most challenging and still need to practise. You can draw the webs out in your homework books and use the sentence starters modelled on the sheet. Multiplication webs If you finish these quickly, or would like more practise, you can use the websites below. Top Marks English Click on the link below to revise using commas correctly to add clarity to sentences. Commas for clarity If you have IDL or Nessy accounts, then please use these before completing any other homework. Remember, you should only spend a maximum of 45 minutes on your homework (not including reading time). Please come and see me if there is anything you don't understand. You have all worked brilliantly this week. I was particularly proud of all your efforts during the Quadkids event. You were all so great at encouraging each other and showing good sportsmanship. There were some fantastic throws and jumps; the best moment had to be watching you complete the final long-distance run. You all pushed yourselves and should be incredibly proud of all your efforts. With the colder weather coming in, please make sure you bring a coat and have your full PE kit in school (you may bring in a dark-coloured sweatshirt if you'd like to) so you can change back into warm, dry uniform on the odd occasion that we may get caught out by the rain.
A quick reminder, please don't forget your homework on Monday. Have a lovely weekend! Reading
Please continue to read for at least 15 minutes a day. Don't forget to record how long you read for, the pages you read and if you read or discussed your book with anyone at home. Maths Click on the link below to have a go at the place value activities. You don't need to complete them all; you can choose the set you think will challenge you the best. If you feel like you need something more challenging, you can have a go at the second activity instead.
