Another successful week in Year 6 is over. You have all worked incredibly hard this week to create some impressive timelines in history, beautiful writing inspired by War Horse and finished off your World War 1 uniform designs.
Below are some photos of what you've all been up to. It would be great if you could tell your mums and dads about your uniform designs or update them on the events in War Horse. Have a lovely weekend and I'll see you on Monday (a gentle reminder - don't forget your homework). Below, you'll find the homework set for this week. Homework will now be set weekly, on Wednesdays. You should spend no longer than 45 minutes (excluding 15 minutes daily reading) completing your homework and return it by the following Monday; we will then mark it as a class.
Reading I would like every child to read for 15 minutes every day. This could be a story, a newspaper or other non-fiction text. It would be great if you could discuss what you've read and record your reading in your homework book. Maths For this week, I would like you to practise all of the times tables you are not confident with. I would like you to write them out in full and rehearse them. There will be a times table challenge next week. You can also try some of the sites below to help you practise. www.timestables.co.uk www.topmarks.co.uk If you're already confident with your times tables and know them all by heart, you could try the challenge below. Nrich Music On Friday, we started to listen to and discuss the World War 1 song, 'Pack Up Your Troubles'. I would like you to research some other WW1 songs. In your homework book, record the name of the songs you find and who they are by. I would then like you to choose your favourite and explain your choice. ![]() Year 6 have had a great second week. We've started our English unit which is based on Michael Morpurgo's, War Horse. It's a wonderful story about a friendship between a Red Bay, named Joey, and a young boy, Albert. As a class, we've made predictions about what will happen in the story and had a go at retelling the events of the first battle from the perspective of a German soldier.
We are learning all about light in Science. During our first lesson, we generated some fantastic discussion about where light comes from, who invented light and what can be used to create light.
Next week, I will be introducing homework to the class. This will be posted on our class blog. It will be sent out on a Wednesday and will be due in the following Monday, ready to be discussed and marked as a class on Wednesdays. See you all next week! You have made such a great start to Year 6 and returned with such positive and proactive attitudes - well done to you all.
Don't forget to tell your parents about your superheroes and how we finished off the week with the Egg Destroyer Challenge (pictures below). You all worked so well together; it was great to see! Next week, our normal curriculum timetable will be in full swing. I’m really looking forward to us getting started on our World War One topic. Have a lovely weekend everyone! Hello, everyone and welcome back!
It's finally complete! I hope you all enjoy it and keep it as a memory of your time at South Tawton. Everyone wishes you all the best of luck at college. Have a wonderful summer - you deserve it!Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, Alice's videos aren't very loud. I've tried my very best to correct this with no luck. I have included Alice's videos below, so you can see and listen to them properly.
Kooth transitioning support and resources for years 6-7
As we move towards the end of term I wanted to remind you that KOOTH.com is available in Devon for young people aged between 11 – 25 years to access over the summer. For young people transitioning from primary to secondary school we want to ensure young people are supported through this challenging time and informed of the Kooth service and their accessibility to the support for their emotional health and wellbeing. Kooth is a web based confidential support service available to young people that provides a safe and secure means of accessing mental health and wellbeing support either by speaking to one of our online counsellors and/or engaging in our Kooth community online with the range of therapeutic support tools we have online. For your students transitioning from Year 6-7 and to support you in signposting Kooth.com to those young people a short presentation video has been shared with you to show with these students for an online assembly that explains the Kooth service in a little more detail. The transition video can be accessed here where you will need to choose the video named ‘Transition Vid’ (Carina). This is a video (8mins 30sec) to be shown to students transitioning into secondary school. Please find attached an introduction and assurance letter for schools as well as a letter for parents and carers. Please contact Carina Miles [email protected] on 07507 946564 / 020 398 49337 if you would like any further information or resources. For more information, please see these documents: Kooth Intro and Assurance letter Kooth letter for parents and carers To finish off their week, Year 6 had a game of socially distanced, football rounders, on Friday afternoon. Here are some photos from the game.
