The creation station has been busy this week. Children have been planning, fastening, cutting and attaching various items to make their own models. There were several vehicles, many with a Superhero theme. We have also continued our Superhero adventures in other areas of learning, such as making potions and comics, untangling superheroes and lots of dressing up. We ended the week by hearing the story 'The Dot' and thinking about how we are resilient. Children then drew their own dot and explored how they could make into their own artwork, just like the character in the story. During our PE sessions with Mr Berry this half term we are learning skills used to play cricket.
Here we are in our first session this week. This week Year R children have met their Year 5 buddy. We look forward to working together this term.
We have continued to have another busy week of learning in Year R. Our chicks have grown very well and have regularly been held and cuddled in class. We said a farewell to them so they could return to the farm, we look forward to seeing photos of them as they grow. In our RE lessons we have followed the Bible stories of Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Children have sequenced the story, learnt new language and made Easter gardens, which Mrs Snell has taken to decorate the porch at St Andrews. We finished the term by making spring potions and hunting for chocolate eggs in the outdoor learning area. We have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of our chicks in Year R. The eggs have been incubating in class for 21 days and this week they hatched before our eyes! We now have 8 fluffy chicks living in our classroom. We like to hear their chirping and will take good care of them for Farmer Jo. Here are some short videos of the hatching. We ended the week with a visit to the farm. We saw lambs, calves and piglets with their mothers. We also created our own maths 10 frames by collecting spring themed items. This week in class we have enjoyed looking at the book The Lost Words. We were pleased to find some of the pictures in real life when on our trips out and about. We have been making the most of the glorious weather this week. In particular, we took a 2.5 mile walk to see Ramsley mine and the wonderful views of Dartmoor and South Zeal. On our walk we found the old mine ruins and had a spring flower hunt.
We have had plenty to keep us busy this week.
On Monday, Alex the vet visited us to talk about her job. She showed us how to bandage animals and we looked at x-rays. On Tuesday, Carol came by to teach us some new songs in our singing workshop. To end the week off we learnt some new circus skills and continued with the circus theme back in class for the day. We enjoyed clowning around! This week we explored the village on wheels. We used our road safety and balance skills to cycle and scooter along the pavements and roads. We were so speedy that we even had time to stop off at the park. We had a visit from Niall at Devon Cricket, he helped us learn and practise our bowling skills. He complimented the class on their super listening skills.
