We had a super time at the zoo on Tuesday with a full day of animal spotting. Children followed maps, read signs and had great fun looking at the animals. They have produced some super writing about their trip back in class and created their own zoo. Inspired by the book 'Pattern Bugs' by Trudy Harris, the children have been creating patterns in lots of different ways. They have been progressing their pattern knowledge to make more complex repeating patterns. They also made clay bugs with Mrs Snell and painted patterns on them too. We have been checking our caterpillars for a few weeks now and were very pleased to see that they made their chrysalis' yesterday. They have now been transferred into a net and we eagerly await metamorphosis and the emerging butterflies. We spent the morning outdoor learning in our forest area. We practised our weaving skills to make bees, completed a treasure hunt and found lots of mini beasts.
Children and adults enjoyed an afternoon of music and singing where all members of the school, from Year R to 6, took part. The children were so pleased to see so many grown ups watching them... it was a garden party, festival feel in glorious sunshine. Below are some photos and part of the Year R butterfly song performance which linked to our topic. 'As we start our final half term in Year R, the children have been keen to explore about the idea of 'growing and changing'. There have been serval discussions about how the seasons change and how animals grow, in particular frogs. We have learnt many facts about frogs and how they differ from toads.
Texts we have enjoyed this week include: 'Oi Frog', 'Tree Seasons come, seasons go' and 'Watch me grow: frog'. We have also started planting our own seeds in our newly decorated plant pots. Year R children have been learning all about good oral hygiene and the importance of keeping your teeth clean. As well as finding out lots of new words, with the help of Ali the alligator they learnt some important toothbrushing rules.
The class have had their photos taken twice this week. We started the week with swashbuckling fun on our pirate adventure day and posed for our class photos the next.
Here are some photos from Year R this week including addition, treasure maps, making a pirate ship and fun with Year 1.
There has been an invisible visitor in Year R this week, Evil Pea has been causing all sorts of trouble in class! Each day he has left us a new story all about his adventures with Supertato ...and caused mischief along the way. He hid Fred Frog in the fridge, made a big mess in the playground, froze and covered our toys in slime and wrapped them in toilet paper! We have been busy making traps, writing signs and reading clues all about this cheeky pea. Luckily, by the end of the week, our efforts were rewarded with him writing a message to us saying he had changed his ways. What a busy and exciting week! We travelled to the Northcott Theatre in Exeter to watch Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World. We have been finding out about the lives of some real life female superheroes, many of which featured in the show. We all enjoyed the costumes, singing, dancing, story telling, live music and also riding on the coach. Children were wonderfully behaved and joined in with the whole experience.
