We were lucky enough to have Dartmoor Ranger, Ian Brooker, come into school on Thursday. The children worked in groups of 5 to build bird boxes and bee motels. I'm sure you'll agree, they all did a fantastic job. Subaru loved it so much, but unfortunately had to leave school early, that he went home and made one of his own! A great week everyone - well done!
Have a lovely weekend! Wow! What a busy first week back to start off the term. This week we have started a new unit based on The Tales of Beedle the Bard in which the children will finish with writing their own magically themed narrative. We have also started a new statistics unit in Maths; the children have been busy choosing the data they'd like to collect and on Monday we will gather all the results and present them in a graph. They have also been introduced to the script for our chosen performance. I have also been blown away by the level of maturity during our first RSE (SCARF) lessons.
Have a lovely weekend everyone! With the move to the school hall, our sponsored sportsathon and 'Free Day', it's been a very busy week to end this half term.
The children have adapted very well to working in the school hall this week and have worked hard to finish their 'Trash' unit in English. On Tuesday, we completed our sponsored sportsathon and, despite the rain, we managed to complete a full 5 and half hours of sporting activities. The children had a fantastic day and I was blown away by how supportive they were of each other. Well done to all of you. If sponsorship money hasn't been brought into school yet, please can it be collected and handed in after half term? I hope you all have a lovely, restful week in the (predicted) sunshine! This week, Year 6 continued with their environmental art topic. We headed out onto the school field, framed a piece of nature and had a go at some observational drawing.
The frames really allowed the children to focus in on one small part and look at all the tiny details of the flowers, leaves and grass. It was lovely to make the most of the sunshine too before the rain set in! Have a lovely weekend. I hope you've all enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend. The extra day off was well deserved after a rather busy week. The children have been working hard to improve their understanding of perimeter and area of different compound shapes. In English, we have been working on a new text, called Trash. The story is really gripping the class so far and stirring up lots of discussion. I'm very excited to see all the fantastic work the children produce during our lessons. Possible Year 6 Residential - Ashbury Hotel, Monday 24th - Wednesday 26th May. You should have all received an email, from Mrs Marvin, inviting you to complete a short survey about whether you would be interested in your child attending. If you haven't done so already, please complete the survey and submit it as soon as possible. On Thursday 27th May, the children will be completing day 2 of the John Muir award. They will complete a field work study and a walk on Shapley Common; I will email further details to parents during the week. What a lovely first week back we've all had. At the start of the week, the children all had a chance to finish off their electronic games in Design Technology. I'm sure you'll all agree, they look fantastic!
On Thursday, we enjoyed a walk up to Cosdon Beacon as part of our first day of the John Muir Award. The children had a fantastic time discovering Dartmoor and looking at the surroundings in detail. We have also had confirmation that we will be able to visit Shapley Common for our second day which is great news! More information about this will follow soon. Have a lovely weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine! It's been a busy end to the term with writing poetry based on The Three Brothers (the tale from Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows). The children have all worked incredibly hard to retell the story using different poetic forms. This week they have been busy writing acrostic poetry, cinquains and haikus. Three brothers walking at twilight, Holding their wands. Eventually, they came to a river too treacherous to cross. Death guarded the river. Evading Death, they built a bridge; they were learned in the magical arts. Advancing towards them was Death. The three brothers were worried. He looked at the brothers, Leaning forward. Yet, still beyond His cloak, they Advanced slowly. He Laughed, Loudly, There brothers were Oblivious to the fact Death was in front of them. Wisely, Death made them a Superior offer. Eldest Brother asked for The most powerful wand In existence. So Death produced Him one. Then the Second brother Asked to see loved ones. So Death plucked a riverbed stone to Give him. The final brother Was humble and asked for the Ability to Travel without Death Following close behind him. Death, reluctantly, Handed over his Invisibility cloak. The first brother went To an old village In hopes of finding a man The brother had once Quarreled with, so he Killed the wizard. Still drunk with Joy, he fell asleep. I hope you all have a really lovely Easter with your families and that we can all enjoy some more sunshine.
Have a fantastic couple of weeks! We've had another lovely week in Year 6, filled with poetry and learning about coordinates. You have all worked really hard this week and produce some wonderful work. Well done to all of you.
It's was great to see you all dressed in red for Red Nose Day, too. On Monday, we will have the second round of the cross country competition, so please make sure you have your PE kit in school. Have a lovely weekend. What a week it's been! It's been so lovely to have the whole class together again. As you'll see from the photos below, everyone has been pleased to see each other again.
To begin the week, the class created some artwork based on the things they love about life (family, pets, nature, sunshine, sports etc.); they were encouraged to think about the non-material things in life that really matter. Their beautiful pieces are now on display in the classroom. We've also started a new unit in English based on Malorie Blackman's book, Cloud Busting. I think it's safe to say it is already changing the children's opinion of poetry! Well done, to all of Year 6, for their fantastic return to school. Keep it up everyone! Have a lovely weekend. It's been a very unusual first half term of 2021, but you have made it and should be very proud of yourselves! It was really lovely to see all of your book nooks this morning. I look forward to seeing them in all their colourful glory on Monday. I am very much looking forward to seeing you all again on Monday - please don't forget to bring your books nooks, family photos, magazaines/newspapers and your notes on an environmental issue with you!
Have a lovely weekend. |
